Garden Update

The plants are in the ground! We've hit the landscaping budget, so tall plants/shrubs along the fence will have to wait until fall. In the meantime, we dug the bed along the fence, planted the rhododendrons and put in all the seedling flowers that Evan and I planted back at our greenhouse.

The vegetable garden is bursting, especially the lettuce. As soon as we pick it, more grows back seemingly overnight - it's fabulous! We had more green peppers and scallions last night in a quinoa black bean salad. Our string beans and tomatoes are growing, and the cucumbers and zucchini are flowering and will be coming soon in full force.

Even more than the lovely garden, I envy you the sunshine! Would you send some up my way? I'd be ever so grateful.

Happy growing!

So what kind of lettuce did you grow? And how did you pick it--do you cut it off close to the base? I'm curious as I have some lettuce coming up now and am unsure of how to pick it. Thanks!

kayevs: I think it was the black seeded Simpson lettuce. It's the standard Burpee seed packet. I will definitely plant it again next year, as it's a very simple lettuce to grow - brown thumb proof! I pick leaves off close to the base and more grows from the center.
